Building: The Veneto
One of the most storied and written about enclaves in New York City, Sutton Place and Beekman Place have long been synonymous with affluence and privilege. The Veneto, a stones throw from this architecturally significant enclave (many of the buildings are designs of pre war luminaries Rosario Candela and Emory Roth) is a statuesque 34 Story stone and brick building that embodies those ideals in the most modern form. The area’s reputation for sophistication made it ideal for portraying the elegant side of New York in movies and has been featured in such films in 1953’s How to Marry a Millionaire, Sabrina and Wall Street. A diverse array of cultural icons have call the area home- architect I. M. Pei, former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, actress Sigourney Weaver, socialite C.Z. Guest, billionaire Aristotle Onassis, Freddie Mercury, Bill Blass, Bobby Short, Marilyn Monroe and her then husband Arthur Miller and is also the official home to the Secretary General of the United Nations, making the stylish Sutton- Beekman neighborhood one of the most international in the city.
The Veneto condominium was developed and built in 2007 by the legendary Related Companies; one of the most prominent privately held development firms in the US whose projects In New York City include the critically lauded Chatham and The Residences at the Mandarin Oriental at Time Warner Center. The Veneto was designed by the leading architectural firm of Davis Brody Bond, LLP, a firm which has been honored with over 100 major design awards; projects include the renovations of the New York Public Library’s Rose reading room and most recently One Sutton Place North and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.
Award winning designer Adam D. Tihany created 137 sumptuously appointed one, two and three bedroom luxury residences interiors. The Vento’s Warm textured exterior is matched the sensorial interiors, from the dramatic cascading chandelier in the grand double height lobby swathed in timeless wood to the rich and inviting residences, Tahini created a seamless balance between beautiful and extravagant. Interior features include Brazilian cherry wood flooring, 9 foot ceiling heights, oversized solarium windows with UV protected glass. Kitchens reflect passion for the culinary arts – marble floors and granite work tops paired with etched glass paneled cabinets set off the fully integrated European Sub-Zero refrigerators and wine coolers, Bosch dishwasher, Viking gas range and the Miele Washer and Dryer. Sumptuous baths feature: custom designed walnut double vanities, travertine marble flooring and counter tops, Kohler soaking tubs, Toto toilets and Villi and Villi satin chrome fixtures.
The building’s floors 3- 8 house seven one and two bedroom units per floor and the common areas. The building “wedding cakes” in at the 9th floor allowing for four set back terraced residences. Of the four apartments per floor on 10th floor and above the make up is: two 2 bedroom units, a 3 bedroom unit and 1 bedroom unit.
