The East End is just gorgeous but I'm not all that familiar with the different areas so I'm looking for feedback.

It really all depends on your needs. Will you be living out there year round or just on weekends? (consider commute time and whether the town has much open in the winter) What type of amenities are important to you - - being near the beach, boating, tennis, pool, walking in to town, etc? How important is cache to you?

It will be a getaway not a fulltime residence. A pool, yes; walk in to town would be ideal; walk to the beach as well would be perfect but it sounds EXPENSIVE. A pretty & stylish area would be nice but chichi is not necessary. One of the NYC posters has a place in East Hampton & one of his posts made me think that EH might be the place. The thing to do is just start spending weekends out there in various & sundry areas & I'll ultimately answer my own question.

I find that East Hampton is just too long of a drive, especially with traffic. For me, 2 hours is really my limit, especially with our baby daughter. I find that Southampton has the most activity, though I would admit that I don't know East Hampton that well.

Is it silly to tout Westhampton Beach?
We have a condo there in walking distance to town and Bun and Burger and wouldnt trade it for the world.
Pool and tennis and we can have dinner and a bottle of wine in town and not get in our car.
Rogers Beach is limited to our small area and the most delightful cove I've ever seen.
The Worst Hampton?
Not for me, but what do I know?

we have a house in sag harbor for the last 3 years, could not be happier. Can get to East Hampton/ Southampton in 15min. Perfect in the middle. we have an apt in ny , and the travel time to Sag is really just about 2:10, The best of all worlds., and now they started a summer ferry to the northfork, just keeps on getting better and better

Try to figure out what you want quickly-the market is taking off. Suspect that by Sept., prices mayl be very different
