HI!!! I am just building a house now (single and need help!!!!:) and I got a cedar roof with red cedar shingles...they look very red...im very concerned bc i wanted it to look more like the quintessential light cedar look (farrell type!!!). I'm not sure who to turn to, I'm new to the building game :) does anyone know if they will turn lighter or if i should just rip my roof off??? please help!!!!!

Unprotected cedar will eventually weather away to gray; however, it may take a several years, depending on sun exposure, proximity to salt water, etc.

there is also a difference btwn red cedar and white cedar, and how you treat it. red sometimes turns more of a brownish color as it ages because it has more tannins, but it should lighten as it ages. you can treat the shingles to lighten them now if you want.
