The price I mentioned was about the all-in cost for the fireplace alone in a new construction house I built last year. All masonary, herringbone fire brick, bluestone hearth, river rock facade and chimney (which extends about 25 feet in total to clear the roof line). If you were to do something like that as an add-on, it would be significantly more as walls need to be cut/patched, a foundation/slab will need to be poured for the chimney, and the entire chimney exterior likely will need to be finished since it is exposed. If there is an attached garage (with nothing over it), you might be able to build a masonary fire box and chimney in the garage (my old house was originally built that way).

The range of other options depends on what the house looks like and your taste and budget. You could build a wood frame bump out on an exterior wall, finish the exterior to match current siding etc., and install a pre-fabricated fire box and stainless steel chimney sleeve in the bump out. There still will be a huge variance in cost depending upon the height of structure, type of siding, etc., and you still need to build a hearth, fireplace facade, mantle etc., which can add up quickly. You need to talk to a contractor, but I doubt that this can be done for under $15,000 regardless of what choices you make.

did a Great Heat and Glow Cerona 42 inch. was part of addition. can be direct vented or top. Has fan blower thermostat settings. Is great since I turn heat down in the entire home oil @ #4.03 a gallon, and use the gas to heat a huge great room with the Lp @ $2.69 a gallon from Peconic propane. Installed by builder but cost of unit about $5,000. Great place to see tons and they install is Piccone uoisland. Hope that helps.p.s remote control is $300 extra but worth it. Instant on.

Too little information. As in put in a fireplace where there never was one? A lot, but it all depends upon what you are looking for. A fully masonary firebox and bricked/stone chimney extending up two stories and above the roofline could easily cost $40K or more. There are lots of steps below that that could be a lot less.
