Although rents are rising and the East Village is now thoroughly respectable, it retains some of its old school grit. Slender sidewalks and walls plastered with graffiti are regular sights.

Homages to the neighborhood's punk rock roots are everywhere.

With plenty of dining options and tattoo parlors, the East Village is a popular destination that feels quintessentially "New York."
