Riverdale
Riverdale (population: 47,850) is an affluent residential neighborhood in the northwest portion of the Bronx. In the beginning of the 19th century, many Manhattan moguls built large estates as there second homes in Riverdale. At the turn of the century, the railroad allowed for easy access in and out of Riverdale due to this, wealthy businessmen made Riverdale their year-round residence. As time progressed, high-end apartment buildings and smaller houses were added to the neighborhood. Riverdale remains a very upscale neighborhood filled with three elite private schools and many historic churches. Riverdale is the most expensive Bronx neighborhood and is one of the most sought-after residential neighborhoods in New York City. Some notable natives include John F. Kennedy, Willie Mays, and Tracy Morgan.
