Is it just me, or is this board dying?

Ever since they moved the link off the front page... it 'aint easy to find this place.

Or is this what capitulation sounds like? ;-)

Boring market + nasty trolls is a bad combo for interesting discussions

a lot of people use SE...not as many post.

ever since W67 and ino got laughed off the board it's been quiet.

Aboutready's purchase in Brooklyn threw her off the imminent-doom predictions, and Riversider's cut way back. Those alone accounted for a lot of volume.

I'd been checking ACRIS every few months, after something about Harlem was mentioned here. Their Brooklyn purchase turned up in March. No idea whether to live in or rent out.

thanks for the heads-up on that, NWT. I wonder if seeing loftydreams' place sold them on the 'hood.

NWT,
You proved a point. Deep down most people would prefer to own, but don't on account of circumstances. Some or just more honest about it than others.

I miss the old crowd, I miss the banter, I don't miss the troll activity.
On SE, the trolls won.

Got tired of the trolls and right-wing politics.

Do any of the boards have age restrictions? Do they try to maintain a diversity of long-timers and relative newcomers?

Probably a combo of market having been relatively boring (until recently it seems anyway), lots of old time posters growing tired of the board (and the same old conversations), and the trolling that never quite went away. Maybe there'll be a minor upswing given the sharp increase in pending sales this year (and flat inventory to go with it).

I picked up a couple of clients from here and then got involved in fundraising for the election, so I haven't been around as much lately -- but my take on this board the past couple of years has been that the activity fluctuates, but we all eventually come crawling back. Do we want to try as a group for another meet-up? The ones Dawn organized three years ago were pretty fun.

I'd very much like to meet up in "meat space" with board posters! Having been a member of other discussion groups, I find that meeting people face-to-face always makes things better, more interesting, and fun.

I've been thinking for awhile about emailing front_porch off-board, as I know she is connected.

Ali, may I do that?

Lucy, of course. I'd be happy to chat.

Just poking my head in to say hi to some old friends. Hope you're all doing well.

The link to the Talk section could certainly be more prominent; as it is, only people who are actively looking for it, or spend a lot of time on SE exploring nooks and crannies, will find it. I myself have only recently discovered that you can see lists of all the units in a given building, lists of past sales, and all kinds of other things. This is a great site and I hope it only keeps getting more popular

"Aboutready's purchase in Brooklyn threw her off the imminent-doom predictions"

Are you serious? After all these years, she finally gave in.

When did she say she bought in Brooklyn?

She didn't say. Awhile back she'd mentioned here that she was looking in Harlem, so I'd been checking ACRIS once in a while. The Brooklyn condo turned up in March.

Williamsburg?

Tough commute for the daughter to school on the UES

Can we agree not to talk about this further?

apt23, 100% agree

What violation of privacy? It's not as if I posted the address. Anyone who knows her name can go look up the purchase.

As an aside, if she didn't want her name known to anyone who could spend five minutes with a standard legal reference, she could've not dropped so many beads.

NWT, that is poor form. Let people post their own info themselves. How would you like it if people posted personal info about you based on what they had gleaned from SE, putting their own arbitrary boundaries around how much info is OK to post and what dropped beads justify it?

We have different ideas of what's "personal info". Given AR's former visibility here and on brickunderground, her choosing to buy was news.

Had I given her name, the address, the neighborhood, or anything else personally-identifiable, then she and you would be right to squawk.

Back to the original nature of this thread. We may have varying opinions on the quality of the content. But I know from my own experience that there are many "lurkers" who garner information here, love the boards but just don't post.

"Given AR's former visibility here and on brickunderground, her choosing to buy was news."

Exactly, and wouldn't it have been interesting, and possibly "informative", and braver, if she posted on SE what finally got her to buy? And would W67 have mocked her for it?

NWT, it's not AR who is squawking. Just me and a number of your online buddies politely suggesting a simple line not to cross: let people post their own info themselves. I know the identities of many people here & vice-versa, including a few of my favorite online frenemies. Not once have I (or they) brought any of the other side's outside info into the discussion, even though it might be relevant "news". Nor much of anyone else for that matter, except maybe ph41's posting of Truth's apt. That was extremely poor form.

Granted, I have called out a couple of fraudsters that have shown up here. But when a criminal convicted on felony fraud shows up here pumping something, I figure that's a good reason to cross the line. But not for "news" aka "gossip".

"And, btw, a very valuable poster who helped guide many on SE through the decline in the market. "

Help guided them to making BAD financial decisions? Dude, she essentially was pounding on the table to not buy in Spring 2009 when it was the BEST TIME. Prices in NYC have gone up since...

The lady is clueless.

I'm still waiting for my SUB 500 psf in (new development) Hunter's point LIC.

WHERE IS IT???

"Exactly, and wouldn't it have been interesting, and possibly "informative", and braver, if she posted on SE what finally got her to buy? And would W67 have mocked her for it?"

So, was she simply talking down the market to benefit herself? Yes.
She was here mocking at people in Spring of 2009 for buying, i really want to see her rational for buying.
I can volunteer to answer for her.

"i effed up. i was wrong. ericho75 was right. nyc housing did bottom in 2009. i couldn't see the green shoot. sorry people."

LIC ppsf now is around $750. The haters here continue sounding stupid.
About ready was a terrible poster- bad advice, obnoxious, and disrespectful. And now shown to be a hypocrite.

"However, i reserve the right to call on you for any ACRIS research in the future cause you are amazing."

apt23, it's not that hard to figure your way around it yourself. Worth giving it a shot.

Yikes, nada, what did I miss?

bjw, this is one though some posts seem to have been removed:

This is the other one, again with most relevant posts removed:

http://streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/30495-buy-vs-rent-dilemma

The first one was shilling RE as an investment quite explicitly on here, and brokers here claim that her criminal background should have excluded her from holding a brokerage license though she seems to have one. She was involved in insurance fraud.

The second was spreading FUD and mis-information on here with no backing. He was involved in illegal trading activities whereby fake orders would be put out to invoke others to trade.
