Does anyone have any experience dealing with Prime Renovations? Has anyone hired Jeff to do a renovation? He seems knowledgeable in person and on the message board. Just wondering if anyone has used him and what their impressions were.
"Search Discussions" to your right of this screen is a wealth of information.
Thanks, I saw this positing. It didn't seem to have much info and it was unclear whether Mytwocents was using Prime Renovations or Prime Home Renovations. I'll reply to that thread.
I used Jeff for a gut renovation of my UWS apartment this past fall. He promised to be finished with the project within eight weeks; we were moved in to the apartment two weeks earlier than promised and are extremely pleased with the results. We renovated our kitchen, 2 bathrooms, hardwood floors, closets and painted. He and his team are very responsive and reliable.
I tend to think "overpriced" but they use the "you get what you pay for" argument enough to convince enough people to use them. That is just my honest opinion.
Have we met? Was my proposal to high? I just want to make sure I am not overpriced. I would appreciate any feedback you can give me.
I hired Jeff to do a full gut renovation and was very happy that I chose him to be my contractor. He was honest, responsive, came in on budget, and finished on time. He stands by his work product. When he was working on my condo, he said he would make sure the job was done as we as if he were moving in himself. He delivered in every way. A close friend renovated her apartment and went with her broker's recommended contractor instead. Her job was a fiasco and she is still saying that she regrets not hiring Jeff.
I agree 100 percent with omega. While I can't comment on the other options you may have in front of you, I can say with almost no doubt that if you went with Jeff you would not regret it. He will take a lot of stress out of the renovation process and deliver an end-product you will be happy with.
Also you will find that he is unusually honest and reliable, qualities that are rather infrequent and hit and miss in the renovation and contracting business.
Definitely have him take a look at your job and see what think. He won't be the cheapest, but not over-excessively priced either, but as you know you get what you pay for, and painless, stress-free good quality work is worth a premium.
AGPUWS, omega and Matsui,
Thank you very much for your kind words. It is very much appreciated.
How much would an average renovation cost for a 2 bedroom 2 bath and dining alcove.. Gut renovation.. Floors , bathrooms the works... Ball park figure... Around 1300 to 1400 square feet
Er, you have to give a sense of what type of reno: just get it done, mid level, high end? Floors replaced? Skim coating walls or just patch and paint? Type of building and age? All new electrical or just add some outlets? Moving walls and or reconfiguring space involved? Very likely you needan architect which with permits and expeditor and building engineer review for a coop starts you at about $30,000 with construction oversight. The construction costs then get added to that. Describing what you mean by gut teno will help.
New floors. New tiles in the bathroom ... New fixtures... Mid level. Patch and paint... New kitchen install... Ac covers.
For a mid level project that does not include removing any walls except in the bathrooms and kitchen you can expect to spend $220,000 to $300,000.
That can change depending on the finishes and what your building requires as far as drawings and permits as Kyle says. If you want me to take a look and give you a real proposal i would be happy to do so

Jeez Bass, something's fishy.
You've resurrected 10 threads to promote your what...cousin?.... partner?
Is the referral fee that big?
Ive never used Primer and though I find his posts sometimes annoying whether it's usually because of siding with the highest figure of a range given, or nearly always says that you shouldnt do certain work yourself, etc., he has been on this site a long time.
And all it takes is once for doing something really bad, even an innocent mistake and being trashed on this forum to be run off for good.
Anyone on this board who has used him has wonderful things to say.
That does speak VOLUMES.
Yeah bass, quit spamming the board with your stupid shill posts. Especially in Primer's thread. You're a Pro alright, pro f-wad.
don't have a lot of experience, but had read a lot of his posts on here before so I gave him a call to give me an estimate.
He cancelled 7:50 pm the day before the scheduled time, and then we exchanged some EMails, the last lines of which ended in:
"Would it make sense if an engineer I know had someone pass away? Would that be a good enough reason to miss a scheduled meeting
Thank you for your interest at this time I will pass on the opportunity."
I ended up getting the $75k work done by another contractor and was really happy. it's frustrating to receive unprofessional, sarcastic EMails like this -- makes you wonder what would happen if there were complications during the job, etc.
I'm sure he's a nice enough guy but lots and lots of fish in the contractor sea, so I steered clear.
>You're a Pro alright, pro f-wad.
Wow, what happened to civility on Streeteasy?
Primer is the best.
He and his staff are the best.
You want to get the best work and results?
Or do you want to pay less for less than the best customer service and quality work, and then need a do-over from a quality contractor?
It's your choice.
Primer won't force you to hire him. He won't beg you to hire him.
If you want the best in N.Y.C. you should be willing to pay for the best.
Thank you. I appreciate your kind words very much
We have both a family member and a dear friend working currently with Primer. They couldn't be more pleased, i.e. professional, fairly priced, and incredibly knowledgable about all aspects of renovations.
I would love to meet you, I adore your family, the nicest people I have met in a very long time. The same goes with your friends.
You are very lucky
Let's renovate while Rome burns!
3.66% mortgages!!!!!! :).
8.99% mortgages!!!!! :(
Thanks Jeff, and i know how lucky i am. I have also suggested to #1 son that he call you for an estimate as he really needs a renovation. hopefully that will happen in my lifetime!
