I am in the process of getting my apartment painted, and noticed a few things. FYI, the building was built in the 60's. You can see where some walls were patched / plastered apposed to walls then never had damage. Also, one of the corners in a hallways lost its "sharp" corner edge. I assume from years of bumps and dings... Is there a way to fix these problems without skim coating?
Appreciate the help.

svengoli,
Not really. You can work on the edge a little bit but to really get the imperfections out you need to skim coat. I know this isn't a good solution but if you paint the walls white you will not notice them as much or perhaps if the walls are not so bad I would think about some wallpaper

What primer says. Also, you probably know this, but the lower the sheen of the paint, the more the imperfections won't show. For minor imperfections, a sheen up to eggshell is fine. I don't care for flat paint in most situations, but that will hide the most (I just find it too lifeless in most situations).

Svengoli,
Kyle has an excellent point. You could also use a textured paint to cover it up, maybe Ralph Lauren suede. I would do a sample first
