And I'm paying the new, adjusted rent from the lease. What exactly does this mean I am (from a legal perspective)? Tenant at will? Month to Month? The landlord (large mgmt company) sent the lease which I forgot to sign and return, but now am thinking of moving. What exactly is my situation?
Jim is a rental broker who got duped into marrying a woman without citizenship status. He's also originally from New Jersey. Oh, and he hates African Americans. And has a violent streak.
Generally snostr, have a conversation if you want to get out of the lease soon. Many problems, especially among people who don't have a vested emotional interest in the other party, can be solved through talking and being reasonable.
You would have made a better case if you continued paying the old rent, but without the landlord having a signed lease and since it's only been a month, use that to your advantage in your discussion.

What does the lease which you signed say? Your answer may be there. My thought is that you're now a month to month tenant but of course I don't know.

Free market or rent regulated? Lease expiration date? When did you start paying the new increased rent?
Free market. Expired July 1. Paid the new rent for july.
