My wife and I were among the first tenants to move into 175 Kent. Within 6 months of the building opening, the original developers sold the building to a publicly traded company that owns buildings throughout the country.
We only stayed in our apartment at 175 Kent for 1 year and left the apartment in pristine condition (despite a small burn on the floor that came at the hand of the building's own maintenance crew.) Despite having our apartment professionally cleaned and us paying every cent of our rent to the last day, the management at 175 Kent Avenue apartments decided to illegally withhold most of our security without any explanation as to why.
My wife and I both have made numerous attempts to reach out to management for an answer and they will not offer any response.
While the location is nice and the building is new, you need to ask yourself if it is worth dealing with a management that is capable of shady business.
I will be seeing them in court.

Not saying it is right but this is one of the reasons people dont pay the last month of rent. At best people believe is they break even.

My husband and I had the same experience at The Beekman Regent at 351 East 51st Street. We feel like idiots for actually paying all of our rent, even though we vacated our apartment two months prior to the expiration of our lease (because we realized we were paying way too much for the space - we feel like idiots for that too). We are in the process of suing the landlord; it outrageous that a landlord can do this and put the burden on the tenant to sue. One would think that the landlord would worry about their reputation? We cannot be the only people this has happened to at 351 East 51st St; why is the word not out on the street that the building's management engages in deceptive practices? Good for you for jeremydpenn for spreading the word about your experience at 175 Kent.
