no. i just don't find one better than the other. they seem to serve very different needs/audiences, although i can see how some people would like both, and SE as well. i also find some decent info on the real deal, although that is frequently highly pro-developer.

brownstoner is good for people looking for advice for renovations, service providers, detailed info about Brooklyn hoods. that suits some people's needs, and is very popular among a large group, but it is of limited scope. curbed is very gossipy, of much larger scope, and has great information but you really need to know a fair amount to discern what is useful and what is filler. i used to read both regularly, now not so much, but i don't "prefer" either. thus my answer.

i don't even know (but if you search plank you should be able to find it). it was so stupid. but truth mentioned planking. as in i was too drunk to remain upright. and i asked the kid what plank meant (without, of course letting her know why) and i thought it was funny to say plank you, as in plank yourself in an interesting position like the current bizarre trend is. I never had any idea that planking meant something more significant, and given that I went to a horrible public high school and didn't take US history in college I never learned about the concept. My husband, who has a master's degree in history from one of the best university's also didn't know the phrase.
