How long does it take the Board to approve an alteration agreement? How is the super in the bldg?
nasus123 - every bdg is different. You will not find the answer by asking SE forum. Call them, build a relationship with one person and stick with it. Good luck.
It will probably depend on how extensive the renovation is and how many other requests the managing agent and building architect are dealing with at the same time. Given the total time it takes to get renovation work done in NYC, the time between request and board approval is going to be a small part of the overall time. If you're so time constrained that this piece is meaningful, you may need to reassess your strategy.
If you're a potential buyer, have your broker ask somebody (the resident manager) what the average times have been.
It looks like nobody from that building is reading this.
You should call the management company, I'm pretty sure they will answer your questions.
It usually takes though 1-3 weeks for the approval if all paperwork requested is in place.
They are very fast-- in my experience, having done this twice in the building, within 2 days, provided that you have all the insurance stuff in order before you start.
We found the same thing and were very happy with our contractor who happens to be well known for working in this building. While the Building Superintendent is extremely careful about recommending people, to the best of my knowledge he has not had a problem with these people.
