Another we are discussing is limit on the number of discussions/comments by each person. Those limits could be driven by other factors.

Riversider alone has created more discussions than the next 10 people combined.

AR is going to take a leave...after commenting more than 12,000 times. Good. Even at the current drivel-spew rate of some it will take a good six months for number two to knock you out of the lead.

I'd like to think my leaving this board would at least alleviate your troll issues, but sadly. the troll seems to be ever expanding.

I had a look last night, for nostalgia, at the thread that occurred before our first meet up at wine and roses. it was so fun! this isn't any longer.

this board has meant a great deal to me, and I've made numerous friends as a result of it. I'm confident they'll remain friends, and for that I'm extremely grateful. NYC real estate is obviously a topic that fascinates me (believe me, nobody looks at as many comps as I do without being obsessed with the topic).

this has been destructive for awhile, but I was loath (that fighting Irish spirit) to let the trolls win. I no longer care. any victory seems destined to be a pyrrhic one at this point. but the bottom line is that this is just no longer interesting or fun. so what have I been fighting to keep going?

I'm not going off in a huff, and this may seem melodramatic, but like many others I find se more than a bit addictive. this public farewell hopefully will provide me with the incentive to stay off the board. if I don't feel free to heap abuse upon me!

I can't take down someone who has given her word and taken it back. Nothing I can say about such a person is worse than her own actions and inability to be trusted. But as jsmith pointed out, the farewell 3 months ago was just a repeat of her farewell 12 months earlier.

In any case, today's most repugnant character is apt23 who took advantage of aboutready's departure to be Streeteasy's biggest Queen bully. Frankly, I think she's a worse and tougher character than aboutready despite not having a trailer trash background. But her hysteria will eventually do her in - either we are talking about a stroke, or another run in with the law.

NYCDreamer/dwell/NWT: Thanks. I haven't really gone anywhere. Like a lot of people, I no longer read most threads, basically for the reasons SE enumerated above. I still follow comps closely, and post them when NWT doesn't beat me to it.

Now that I'm licensed, open house reports are a bit problematic: when I like an apartment, my first priority is to share my assessment with clients. When I dislike one, I can't spew too much venom, because the viability of the Burkhardt business model depends on a peaceful - if uneasy - coexistence with the traditional brokerage houses. I hope to do more writing in the fall, when inventory picks up. The biggest challenge is finding the time among day job, family, etc.

As for the state of the SE board, I agree that a more functionally rich technical platform would help. IMO, though, the key is for all of us to think before posting and, above all, resist the compulsion to feed the trolls. Although the troll attacks may appear personal, I think that's largely a ruse to stir up $&!+ and get a reaction from bearish regulars. The real target isn't AR or CC or AH or w67. The true goal, I think, is to undermine Streeteasy itself, by lowering the signal-to-noise ratio below the tolerance of most readers.
