Around NYC is a roundup of noteworthy local stories the StreetEasy editorial team read this week:

Amazon is eyeing a 10,000-square-foot space on the ground floor of the Chrysler Building. The space would be for a retail store, and would add to the company’s ever-expanding real estate empire in New York City. [New York Post]

It’s becoming clear that there is currently no concrete plan to avert the L train shutdown. More questions, and few answers, resulted from a three-hour emergency hearing of the MTA board this week. [Gothamist]

But apparently Governor Cuomo wants control of the MTA. Currently, he shares control with Mayor Bill de Blasio and six appointed officials. [CBS News]

A record-breaking 65.2 million tourists visited New York City in 2018. In spite of the failing subway! [The New York Times]

More than 34,000 units of affordable housing were financed last year, according to Mayor de Blasio. That brings the total number of affordable homes created or persevered under the de Blasio administration to 122,000, half of the Mayor’s goal of 300,000 by 2026. [Curbed]

The softening of the New York City sales market is hurting sales in Greenwich, CT. One of the most expensive ZIP codes in the country, Greenwich is seeing declining prices as sellers enter the market from Manhattan with less cash to invest. [Crain’s]

Residents are trying to save the beloved Westsider Rare & Used Books with a crowdfunding campaign. The Upper West Side shop needs to raise $50,000 to stay in business. After less than 24 hours, it’s halfway there. [Westside Rag]
