Astoria is one of the most coveted neighborhoods in Queens thanks to its old-school charm and proximity to Manhattan. While prices are on the rise in Astoria, they’re still not as expensive as those of its neighbor to the south, Long Island City. And there are plenty of great deals in the nabe, like 14-17 31st Ave. #4F. Our Deal of the Week is a 1-bedroom apartment with a spacious kitchen, in-unit laundry, and parking!
The median asking price for a home in Astoria was $895,000 this May according to the StreetEasy Data Dashboard. That means our Deal of the Week is priced at about a third of the median asking price for the neighborhood!
Buyers who stick with the 20% minimum down payment of $59,800 can expect to see monthly payments of $2,017. This includes a mortgage payment of $1,299 and a maintenance fee of $718. It’s also less than Astoria’s median asking rent of $2,500!
First of all, the apartment boasts plenty of space, with more than enough room in the living room for a sectional couch and a small dining set. The living room is open to the kitchen, which features floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and lots of counter space. Plus, you’ll find the holy grail of NYC kitchens: a dishwasher! There are also additional cabinets by the door that can function as a coat closet, pantry, or storage.
The king-sized bedroom is also rather spacious, with room for a work-from-home setup. A double-wide closet with mirrored doors also provides a generous amount of storage space. The windowed bathroom is complete with a medicine cabinet and standing shower with glass doors.
Even with all the storage you’ll find in the unit, there’s an additional storage cage in the basement of the building for your larger items! The co-op also provides a common laundry room, shared courtyard, and even parking. There’s also an elevator in the building, so no need to worry about taking the stairs.
And of course, there’s the location. The Astoria Ferry landing isn’t too far away, meaning picturesque commutes to Midtown and Wall Street are a breeze. Plus, the building is surrounded by great eateries like the Bel Aire Diner and Rosa’s Pizza.
Unfortunately, it’s a bit of a trek to the subway: the N/W trains at 30th and Grand are a half mile away. The ferry is closer, but might not meet everyone’s needs. The kitchen is also a bit outdated, and may require renovations and new appliances for a more modern look. But if you’re looking to buy in Queens for under $300K, be sure to check this one out!
