It’s a palace know as the “Pond House,” it’s in East Hampton, and — until this summer — it had sat on the market for eight years. A buyer appeared this month, but not until yesterday did we learn, via Behind the Hedges, that it’s none other than pop power-couple Beyoncé and Jay Z.
Yes, Bey and Jay have summered in the Hamptons before, but now, they’ve committed to the area — to the tune of $25.925 million. Which ain’t nothing, but just look what it bought. The Pond House was designed by notable architect Stanford White. A recent renovation by Hamptons contractor Jeffrey Colle took the incredible step of rotating the entire house 90 degrees, so its living room faces west toward Georgica Pond.
Even the bones here are oh-so-good. The house spans 12,000 square feet, including 7 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. A guest cottage outside has two more bedrooms and a full kitchen. The whole property sits adjacent to a 17-acre nature preserve, so the first couple of hip-hop and their children won’t have to worry about annoying neighbors.
Inside, the interior is sort of country-luxe, with matte marble fireplaces, fabulous oak paneling, and hand-carved marble bathtubs. It’s super-opulent without being gaudy. The property was listed for $39.5 million back in 2009, meaning the parents of Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir Carter scooped it up for a steep discount off the original asking. Kudos to them. Now here’s hoping they film a music video in the new house, so we can see how they decorate it.
