Bjork Lists Brooklyn Heights Penthouse for a Soaring $9M

It’s a sad day for the borough of Brooklyn. Bjork, the creative Icelandic genius and long-time local, has just listed her Brooklyn Heights penthouse for $9 million.

The apartment at 160 Henry St.  sprawls 3,000 square feet and occupies the entire top floor of a landmarked building on one of the neighborhood’s loveliest blocks. The apartment offers 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and a private terrace. The layout is non-traditional, befitting the owner’s artistic style, and divided into “day” and “night” spaces, with the bedrooms on the north side and the main living rooms and kitchen on the south side.

Although previous sales at 160 Henry St. typically command about $1,200 per square foot, this listing is priced more competitively at $3,000 per square foot. But what is Bjork if not lofty?

The penthouse has been owned by Bjork since 2009, when she and her ex Matthew Barney paid $4.5 million. According to Variety, Bjork bought out Barney’s share after the couple split in 2013, bringing on a custody battle for the couple’s daughter.

The 52-year-old Bjork had been on a world tour this past summer to support her 2017 release, “Utopia.” Her last dates were in Rome and Helsinki in July, so this decision to part with her Brooklyn home comes after she’s returned from her multi-city gig.

The listing is held by Philippe Choplin of Douglas Elliman, who notes the penthouse is one of only 38 units in the historic co-op building. The location is stellar, too, close to the Promenade. And the wraparound terrace from Bjork’s apartment delivers 360-degree views, including the Statue of Liberty. Maintenance fees for the apartment are $5,500 a month.
