Williamsburg 1BR

Go clean-and-bright in Billyburg with our Rental of the Week.

Many New Yorkers dream of a place to call their own in this super-hip Brooklyn ‘hood, but alas, the area’s luxury new construction is priced far out of reach. That’s what makes this fully renovated Williamsburg 1BR a rare find: It’s a 500-square-foot, bright-and-sunny, cheerful home base in the center of all that this vibrant neighborhood has to offer, for well under the local median rental price. Let’s take a closer look!

Address: 59 Stagg St. #A

Price: $2,200

Size: 1-bedroom

Neighborhood: Williamsburg

Best feature: We hardly need to point out that an eat-in kitchen is rare in NYC. And while this one isn’t full of sleek stainless steel bells and whistles, it is spacious enough for a full dining set and feels comfortable and homey, with a big window and, crucially, a dishwasher. Plenty of dinner parties could — and should! — be thrown in this kitchen. The high ceilings and oak floors don’t hurt, either.

Why it’s a deal: Williamsburg is a hot ‘hood, both for nightlife and for rentals. The median rental price for a 1-bedroom here is $3,281, which makes this apartment’s no-fee $2,200 rent more than $1K cheaper than average. Heat and hot water are included, and the apartment’s Stagg Street location is pretty close to the local G, L, J and M trains, so commuting to work (or back home from a big night out) will be no problem.

Biggest drawback: This is a first-floor unit with direct access to the building’s “yard” via a door in the bedroom. While this might be a great perk if you have a dog — which by the way is allowed — there are no photos of said yard in the listing, and it’s unclear how many other people might have access to it. If the possibility of neighbors hanging out right outside your bedroom is a turnoff, this might not be the place for you.
