Bright Sun & Hot Nightlife: Lower East Side 1BR Asks $2,595

lower east side 1br

High ceilings, bright sun, and nice hardwoods in the heart of the Lower East Side.

If you’re looking to live downtown, you’re probably someone who appreciates NYC’s more social side. (OK, things aren’t so social right now, but it will return one day!) It’s hard to do better than the Lower East Side for nightlife and cultural impact. You’ve got the both avant-garde New Museum and the old-school Tenement Museum, surrounded by all the bars, restaurants, performance venues, and shopping that make downtown so vibrant — and so popular. Our Rental of the Week is a Lower East Side 1BR that places you right in the middle of it! Check out the video walkthrough on the listing, and read on for more.

Address: 79 Rivington St. #2B

Price: $2,595

Size: 1-bedroom

Neighborhood: Lower East Side

Best feature: This Lower East Side 1BR is on Rivington Street between Allen and Orchard — it doesn’t get much more central than that. And if you need a green-space break, Sara D. Roosevelt Park is just two blocks away.

Beyond the choice location, though, this apartment has a lot to like. The ceilings are high, the windows are big and bright, and all that natural light bounces happily off of lovely hardwood floors. The nicely renovated bathroom sports a feature wall of herringbone tiles that adds an unexpected pop of style.

Why it’s a deal: The median rent for a Lower East Side 1BR is $2,999. So our Rental of the Week is $400 per month below average for the neighborhood. That buys a lot of drinks at all those local bars and nightclubs!

Biggest drawback: This apartment’s kitchen is cute! But it sure isn’t big. The appliances are new but there’s no dishwasher and hardly any counter space to speak of. A rolling island, work table, or dining set would help a lot in terms of having surfaces to put things on. And this building is a walk-up (we are right near the Tenement Museum, after all!), but it’s only on the second floor.
