The Price: $490,000

The median asking price for a home in Crown Heights was $1.3 million this September according to the StreetEasy Data Dashboard. That puts our Deal of the Week’s price at well under half the median asking price for the neighborhood!

Buyers who put down the 20% minimum down payment of $98,000 can expect to see monthly payments of $3,490. This includes a mortgage payment of $2,819, common charges of $515, and monthly taxes of $156.

Why You’ll Love It…

Enter the condo through a long entryway with a closet, perfect for storing shoes and coats. Note that this is just one of three closets in the unit! Upon entering the open living area, you’ll be greeted by the multiple large windows in addition to wide-plank red oak floors, high ceilings, and custom millwork. A mix of recessed lighting and pendant lights creates a great vibe.

The kitchen features a very long peninsula that can provide bar-style seating and entertaining space, in addition to ample room for prepping food. In addition to the stylish quartz countertops, the kitchen boasts stainless steel appliances, including a mounted microwave and a washing machine. There’s also tons of cabinetry, so storage space shouldn’t be an issue.

Down the hallway, you’ll find the windowed bathroom with its bright all-white color scheme, featuring subway tile walls, a large vanity, and an expansive medicine cabinet. There’s another closet outside the bathroom, which could be the perfect spot to store linens. The bedroom is also fairly large, with a double-wide closet for additional storage.

While the unit has been renovated, the pre-war building has maintained much of its vintage charm, including a grand lobby with checkered floors, chandeliers, and molded ceilings. The unit also comes with a separate storage unit, and additional storage units are available to purchase at $10,000 each. The 3 and 4 trains are the closest options to the building, but the 2 and 5 also stop nearby. A slew of restaurants are within the surrounding blocks, offering everything from Caribbean food to Kosher fare to bagels. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Prospect Park are both within a couple stops on the subway, too.

…And Why You Might Not

There’s no elevator in the building, but thankfully this unit is just one flight up. There’s a washing machine in the kitchen but no dryer, so you’ll have to hang-dry your clothes or visit a laundromat. Fitting a formal dining set in the living room along with a couch and seating might be difficult, but the breakfast bar helps provide some seating.

Still, for a 1-bedroom in NYC, it has a decent amount of storage space, a sizable bedroom, and state-of-the-art updates. Be sure to check this one out if you’re looking to buy in Crown Heights!
