Living in Midtown definitely has its pros and cons. It’s centrally located and there’s easy access to Central Park, but it can also be on the pricey side of things. That doesn’t mean there aren’t deals to be found, which is the reason we are calling this true 2-bedroom co-op at 321 W. 55th St. #L2 in Hell’s Kitchen our Deal of the Week.
The Price: $650,000
According to the latest StreetEasy Market Reports, the median asking price for an apartment in Midtown West is $1,296,500. That puts our Deal of the Week at about half the median asking price for the neighborhood.
Buyers who pay the 20% minimum down payment of $130,000 can expect to see monthly payments of around $3,660. This includes a mortgage payment of $2,462 and a maintenance fee of $1,198.
Why You’ll Love It…
This 2-bedroom has been completely renovated within the last few years by architect Jill Porter. (Take a look at the “before” photos – you’ll be amazed). And, it’s a true 2-bedroom, which means both bedrooms have a closet and a window. Plus, there’s plenty of additional storage space and closets throughout the apartment.
While the second bedroom is smaller, the master bedroom is spacious and grand. Large sliding doors separate the master from the living room, but can be completely opened for a more open feel or closed for privacy.
The kitchen definitely stands out with blue custom lacquered cabinetry. Additionally, there’s gorgeous white tile backsplash, Bosch dishwasher, Summit fridge, and a Vigo sink and faucet. It’s also open to the living room. The bathroom is spacious and the floor is covered in black hexagonal tile, with white subway tile on the walls. Plus there’s a huge, deep soaking tub.

Location-wise, this co-op is just two blocks south of Columbus Circle and Central Park. There are plenty of train options nearby including the N, Q, R, and W lines, the A, C and E lines, B and D lines and the 1 train. And of course there’s no shortage of eateries, theaters, and shopping.
The building has an elevator, live-in super, laundry room, bike room, and additional storage. Plus it’s pet-friendly, so no worries about your furry friends.
… And Why You Might Not
This co-op doesn’t list any policies for subletting, gifting, co-purchasing, or pied-à-terres, so definitely ask the listing agent about the policies. Also, the second bedroom is on the smaller size.
But, we really couldn’t identify a show-stopper for this place. So, if you’re looking for a place in Midtown, this is definitely a place you should check out.
