What happens to a 38th floor apartment at The Pierre after it has been handed down over the years from one haute couture designer to another? This: A stunningly tight jewel box in which every square inch has been rendered aesthetically perfect.
No wonder the 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom residence at the iconic building at 795 Fifth Ave. has a list price of $10 million and a hefty monthly maintenance fee of $10,411. This is no prêt-à-porter sort of abode.
The apartment is owned by Tomas Maier, but as the listing notes from John Burger of Brown Harris Stevens points out, that’s just the beginning of the high-fashion lineage.
Steeped in history, this spectacular tower residence perched on the Northwest corner of the 38th floor in the iconic Pierre Hotel is a stunningly renovated aerie. Once owned by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Burge and then by Giancarlo Giammetti, the longtime business partner of Valentino fashion designer Valentino Garavani, this apartment is stylish and perfect for entertaining and sophisticated living.
Women’s Wear Daily also noted that the rock-star architect/designer Peter Marino delivered a stunning renovation to the apartment for Giammetti, and that Maier loved the interior so much he did not change a thing.
We can understand why, given the Parquet de Versailles floors, faux treated walls, and custom lighting for artwork: This place is extraordinary. And that’s not even taking into account the sensational views of Central Park.
The interior gets added oomph from its ebony-paneled foyer and gallery, plus the casement windows that flood this corner unit with natural light. And, naturally — given the high-fashion wardrobe of its designer owners, the bathroom is connected to a private dressing room.
And because The Pierre contains only 77 residences, owners there have access to the hotel’s services such as 24-hour concierge, daily maid service, valet service, and the fitness center.
