Not since the opening of the High Line in 2009 has there been as much fanfare and buzz over the latest, newest development in New York City. But in terms of big, this is colossal. When the sprawling $25 billion-dollar Hudson Yards complex is unveiled on Friday, it will mark the official start of the transformation of Manhattan’s West Side on its way to perhaps becoming the new epicenter of NYC’s commerce, retail, restaurants and housing.
Friday’s grand opening celebration will be attended by the officials from Hudson Yards developers Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group, as well as public officials and will start at 10 a.m. It will include live performances, and inaugural walks on the Vessel with “notable New Yorkers and attendees.” Around 11:30 a.m., there will be photo-op and ribbon cutting ceremony at The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards, which will open to the public around noon.
While renters have already begun occupying apartments at One Hudson Yards and tenants are filling in the commercial towers at 30 and 55 Hudson Yards, owners and renters of the condos at 15 Hudson Yards will get to move in this week. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the 88-story, 910-foot tower offers incredible views of the Hudson River and surrounding gardens. The building is located right in the thick of activity along the High Line and has sweeping views up and down the Hudson River.
As can be expected, these apartments are pretty luxurious. Even on the lower end of the price spectrum apartment #27G comes in at a hefty $4,315,000. The 2-bedroom, 2.5-bath apartment not only offers exceptional views, but custom oak cabinets, in-unit laundry, Miele appliances, and even wine storage (see slideshow below).

The building doesn’t skimp on amenities either. Residents can expect a private studio for fitness classes, plus a 75-foot long swimming pool.
Set to open in June is 35 Hudson Yards. The 92-story complex will feature 143 condos in addition to an Equinox Hotel. At 1,000 feet, it is the tallest residential building in the Hudson Yards project.
Hold on to your selfie stick, as the Public Square and Gardens of Hudson Yards is sure to be all over social media and will certainly induce some serious FOMO.
The Vessel, the centerpiece of the Hudson Yards project, will open Friday as well. Designed by Thomas Heatherwick and Heatherwick Studio, the humongous, 150-foot high interactive, climbable staircase is made up of nearly 2,500 steps and 154 interconnecting staircases. To reserve tickets to walk the Vessel, go here. According to Related:
Vessel will be open every day between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m., weather permitting. Individuals interested in scheduling a time to visit will be able to book their free tickets up to 14 days in advance, while others who want to make a spur of the moment decision will have an opportunity to reserve free, same-day tickets every morning at 9 a.m. online or by speaking with a Vessel Ambassador at Hudson Yards. Timed-tickets will specify the one-hour window guests are expected to enter Vessel, but the tickets will not limit the amount of time people are permitted to stay on the structure.
Bordering the gardens is The Shed, Hudson Yards’ new arts center. Set to open in April, The Shed includes two gallery spaces, a theater, artists’ lab and rehearsal space. The building’s outer shell is even capable of expanding to a larger size, thanks to some amazing ingenuity from Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Rockwell Group.
New residents and visitors alike will have access to a large selection of tasty treats within the Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards. Food options range from fast casual places such as Shake Shack, David Chang’s Fuku, and Blue Bottle Coffee to fine dining options such TAK Room by Thomas Keller and Wild Ink by Peter Jin. For Instagram-worthy food snaps, there’s Dylan’s Candy Bar and KITH Treats for the most dedicated hypebeast.
Hudson Yards will also be a new retail center, with both high-end and budget-friendly offerings from Dior and Louis Vuitton to MUJI and H&M. Regardless of your personal style, Hudson Yards aims to be your new cultural hub on Manhattan’s West Side.
