Jeffrey Epstein’s former mansion in NYC is for sale with an asking price of $88 million. The late convicted felon’s townhouse at 9 E. 71st St. is known as the Herbert N. Straus House. It was built in the 1930s on what would become one of New York City’s wealthiest blocks. Today, it is reportedly the largest single-family home in NYC.
It was constructed in the French Neoclassical style, and features 40 rooms spread out over seven stories and 28,000 square feet. Details include 15-foot-tall oak entry doors, imported French limestone, and antique European fixtures. Though much of the original features remain, the interiors were updated by famed interior designer Alberto Pinto. And with a location just around the corner from Central Park, the home’s balconies enjoy unobstructed views of the greenery and Midtown skyline.

Agents describe owning this property as a “once in a lifetime opportunity,” suggesting the historic landmark could be converted into a consulate, embassy, foundation, or a museum.
The home is at the center of the scandal surrounding Epstein, who was accused of abusing young women in his NYC mansion and other homes. His Palm Beach house is also on the market, for $21.995 million. His other properties, including a private island in the US Virgin Islands, will list shortly.
Epstein pleaded guilty to prostitution charges in 2007 in Miami and served 13 months in jail. Last summer, he was jailed on sex-trafficking charges and was awaiting trial in New York when he committed suicide in August.
