Price: $2,300
Size: duplex studio
Neighborhood: Kips Bay
Best feature: Our Rental of the Week has a super-flexible layout that allows for creativity. Use it however it works best for you! The lofted area upstairs has a large closet and is plenty big enough to serve as a bedroom. That would leave the entire downstairs as an open, loft-like living area. The upper level would also make a perfect dining room, or a very comfortable home office. And the lower level could easily be sectioned off to create a bedroom as well.
In addition, three large, south-facing windows let a ton of natural light flow through the space. High ceilings, warm hardwoods, and exposed brick add even more character. And our Rental of the Week is in an enviably central location, too. It’s close to both midtown and downtown, not to mention the 6 train. Plus it’s within a few blocks of super-convenient amenities like Trader Joe’s, Fairway, Bed Bath & Beyond, and even Target!
Why it’s a deal: Kips Bay is a submarket of Midtown East. The median asking rent here is $3,305, according to StreetEasy’s Data Dashboard. That puts this Kips Bay duplex at a full $1,000 per month below average for the area.

Biggest drawback: While this Kips Bay duplex lives more like a spacious loft, it’s technically a studio. If the lack of walls and defined rooms will bother you, you should probably look elsewhere. In addition, the kitchen is dated (though totally functional).
