Yes, it’s July, and air conditioning may be top of mind — but remember how cold last winter was? That’s why our pick for Rental of the Week has heated floors — and so much more. This Long Island City 1BR is the definition of spacious and airy, thanks to ginormous windows and an open floor plan. Better still, it comes with Mitsubishi air conditioning so you can keep your cool for the rest of the summer. Plus, you can’t beat its cost to rent. It’s $800 less than the area’s median asking price — and it’s no-fee!
Address: 25-10 38th Avenue APT-6-C
Price: $2,199
Size: 1-bedroom
Neighborhood: Long Island City
Best feature: It’s so hard to choose! But if we must pick one to start with, our Rental of the Week is brimming with natural light. Both the main living area and bedroom have floor-to-ceiling windows that show off the gorgeous wood floors. There’s also a private balcony — big enough for two adults to kick back and relax. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the fabulous two-toned kitchen with white and gray Shaker cabinetry and stainless steel appliances.
The unit’s location in Long Island City provides convenient access to subways, shops, waterfront parks, and, let’s not forget, MoMA PS1.
The building has an elevator, on-site laundry, and a shared roof deck. And here’s a bonus for outdoor cyclists: bike storage is available on the premises.
Why it’s a deal: Long Island City in Queens is a desirable neighborhood with a high median asking rent of $3,000 as of May 2021. That’s higher than the median asking rent for Manhattan, which landed on $2,900 for the same period. That makes this Long Island City 1 BR, which costs $2,199, a fantastic deal!
Biggest drawback: If we had to nitpick, the building is located at a busy intersection, so spending time on the balcony during high-traffic days may not be so tranquil. Also, home chefs may feel a little cramped by the lack of countertop space, but this Long Island City 1 BR has the must-have appliances.
