A massive new rental development in the Melrose section of the Bronx has just launched a housing lottery for low-and middle-income earners with apartments starting at $328 a month. The 288 units are open to a variety of incomes according to area median income; see the chart below.

Located at 443 E. 162nd St., Bronx Commons was built with sustainability in mind, complete with solar roof panels to reduce utility costs for residents. Developed by the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco) and BFC Partners, the complex offers 305 affordable units total, ranging in size from studios to 3-bedrooms. Applicants must earn between $13,646 for a single person at 30 percent AMI, up to $133,100 for a household of six at 110 percent AMI. The eligible income brackets are listed in the chart below.
Bronx Commons will also feature 22,000 square feet of commercial space on its ground floor, in addition to the Bronx Music Hall, which will serve as the development’s centerpiece. The 14,000-square-foot venue will provide studio, performance, recording, exhibit and classroom space for Bronx artists and audiences.

Applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than June 14, 2019. After the deadline, applications are selected for review through a lottery process and if selected, applicants will be invited to an interview to continue the process of determining eligibility.
