Forget a room with a view. How about scoring a Greenwich Village 1-bedroom that has been handsomely turned out by celebrity designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent?
The designing men have created a little downtown stir with the 2 E. 12th Street beauty the pair has personally remodeled and decorated. The price is $800,000 and is listed by the power couple’s go-to real estate agent Emily Beare at CORE.
The serene brownstone unit can be purchased with all the just-right furnishings and accoutrements Berkus and Brent have tastefully placed throughout that reflects the apartment’s classic prewar roots with just enough modern design touches.
The couple bought the apartment for $685,000 in 2014, when they were living almost full-time in Los Angeles. It was also during this period that the pair also worked on a more grand remodel of a combined, 2-unit duplex at 39 Fifth Avenue. After working on that project for two years, the masterful 2,800-square-foot penthouse was listed for $10.5 million and sold in 2016 for $9.8 million.
With two kids, it’s a safe bet to assume this 1-bedroom listing has not served as the couple’s home after their move from L.A. to NYC. In March, they sold their Spanish Colonial mansion in Hancock Park for just under $12 million, signaling that the celebrity designers were not really ready to put down West Coast roots. The pair had also previously bought, remodeled and sold another Spanish Colonial in Hollywood Hills.
But with New York City as their new canvas, Berkus and Brent have picked up more free publicity with this new Village listing. There’s an open house scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 8, and more than 60 StreetEasy shoppers have already saved it as a favorite. Let’s see if a buyer goes all in with the Berkus/Brent creation by keeping the place as is.
Monthlies aren’t bad either at just around $1,200 for this pet-friendly, 10-unit townhouse just off Fifth Avenue. And yes, pied-à-terre use is allowed.
