Rental of the Week: NoMad 1BR With Fabulous Skylight Asks $2,383

nomad 1br - rental of the week

Helloooo, sunshine!

Bright sun in a hot neighborhood is what our Rental of the Week offers Manhattan renters. A massive and unique skylight in the living room of this NoMad 1BR floods the space with natural light during the day and lets you stargaze from your sofa by night. Plus, the many charms of Madison Square Park are just steps away.

Address: 129 E. 27th St. #3F

Price: $2,383

Size: 1-bedroom

Neighborhood: NoMad

Best feature: It’s hard to get past that incredible skylight! But this NoMad 1BR has plenty more going for it, starting with the neighborhood itself. NoMad is hot these days (just ask Jeff Bezos!), and this stretch of East 27th Street is one reason why. It’s home to great restaurants like Blue Smoke and I Triulli, and delicious ice cream at Kaylee’s Creamery. Plus it’s just a couple blocks from Madison Square Park, with its shady lawns, dog runs, art installations, and the original location of Shake Shack.

On the top floor of a townhouse, the home features a spacious living room with a marble decorative fireplace. There are two more big windows here in addition to the skylight. The bedroom is more than big enough for a queen-size bed, and the separate kitchen has lots of storage space.

Why it’s a deal: NoMad is a fairly small pocket north of Madison Square Park (hence the name), and it’s a pricey area. Adjacent neighborhoods have high median asking rents, according to StreetEasy’s Data Dashboard: $4,495 for Flatiron, $3,600 for Gramercy Park, $3,334 for Midtown East, and $3,750 for Midtown South. This NoMad 1BR’s asking rent of $2,383 is a heck of a bargain by comparison.

Biggest drawback: Nothing’s perfect, and this apartment, while fantastic in so many ways, is unfortunately a fourth-floor walkup. In addition, the $2,383 rent is net-effective based on one month free; the gross rent is actually $2,600. But that’s still a great deal for the neighborhood — and isn’t all that sunshine worth it?
