COVID-19 + NYC Real Estate
Even with so much of New York life on hold, real estate deals are happening. Some residents may simply need a new home, while others see the present uncertainty as a good opportunity. Whatever the circumstance, deals are getting done — even high-end homes are going into contract. We won’t see what final sale prices are until these deals formally close, but here are five of our favorite NYC homes that sold this week.
Apparently one New York shopper decided they’d rather be sheltering inside a stunning Tribeca loft — and who can blame them? Renovated in 2018, this industrial beauty has an expansive living room with 10-foot-10-inch ceilings, an immaculate kitchen with two islands, and 2 bedrooms, plus a home office and walk-in closet. On the market for just under $2.6 million, the home was represented by Julia Hoagland at Compass.

It’s not only high-end buyers who are doing deals. One lucky Gothamite snagged this beautifully bright Upper West Side co-op, listed by Moshe Kanarfogel at Compass, for $450,000. It’s got all a NYC 1-bedroom needs: a great location near West 72nd Street in a well-outfitted building, amazing light from all those windows, and a solid price.
Or why not this top-notch Upper East Side 1-bedroom in an Emery Roth co-op building, with a classic sunken living room and space for days? Irina Sher at Douglas Elliman had it listed for $830,000, and just this week, someone said yes.
Congrats also to the Brooklynites (present or future) who snagged this incredible Park Slope brownstone. It’s got 5 bedrooms across two units: an upstairs owner’s duplex with classic character, and a 1-bedroom on the garden level with outdoor access. Lisa Gaytan at Halstead had the place listed for $2.35M after a small price cut, and we’re not at all surprised she found a buyer.

Speaking of the outer boroughs, this Astoria two-family has to be one of the coolest houses on its block. The gut-renovated home has a unique weathered-wood exterior and a light, bright interior with exposed brick. Throw in a backyard, a terrace, and a roomy upstairs rental unit — plus an asking price of about $1.8M — and it’s no wonder Compass’ Justin Martinez had some paperwork to do this week.
