Reports Say Geffen the Buyer for $70M Hamptons Estate

He may have been a free man in Paris, but movie/music mogul David Geffen likes to keep retain a host of high-priced homes that can accommodate his peripatetic lifestyle. And that doesn’t include his massive private yacht. Geffen’s latest adventure in high-end real estate is a new summer pad in East Hampton.

According to the New York Post, Geffen is the buyer for a $70 million estate at 199 Lily Pond Lane. The estate had been owned by Josephine Chaus, founder of Chaus clothing line. She died in November 2015 at age 64. Incidentally, Chaus’ Upper East Side townhouse is also for sale. The 30-foot wide mansion at 128 East 73rd Street is a pretty formidable residence, but may be slightly hindered by its more classical interior design style and furnishings — given the market today and buyer’s penchant for modern interiors.

As for Geffen: He had previously owned another East Hampton property at 30 West End Road. He paid $50 million for the property in 2014, but turned around and sold it to developers looking to capitalize on waterfront property in the ever-sizzling Hamptons. That sale put Geffen back in the market for a Hamptons property.

According to Forbes Magazine, “Geffen’s American residences (on land and at sea) are worth some $1.1 billion.” He owns the 10th-largest yacht, (454-foot Rising Sun) and owns homes in Beverly Hills and Malibu. In Manhattan, Geffen bought the home of another high-ranking woman mogul when he paid $54 million for songwriter Denise Rich’s penthouse at 785 Fifth Avenue.

The Parc V beauty was called the largest penthouse ever offered on Fifth Avenue. Geffen owns another apartment at the Park V.
