Uma Thurman's Gramercy Park Sold for $6,608,000

Update (11/10/2016): Uma Thurman’s duplex at 1 Lexington Ave finally has a sold price: $6,608,000. After being listed for $6,250,000, on April 8, 2016, it went into contract in May 2016.

Original (4/11/2016): One look through the listing photos for this elegant yet comfortable duplex at 1 Lexington Avenue and you know why it took Uma Thurman a few long months to finally decide to part with it. In an exclusive interview with The New York Times, the actress said that her strong pull to the apartment and the fact that she raised her kids there made it a tough decision. Now, though, with a $6.25 million list price, the deal is ready to be done.

The 5-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom unit was put together by Thurman after her divorce from Ethan Hawke. The couple originally owned another 3-bedroom unit in the Gramercy Park building, but Thurman sold that in 2006 and bought #8/9C, combining the 3-bedroom with a 1-bedroom upstairs (Unit # 8D, which she bought in 2012 for $1.55 million) to create this duplex.

The expansive unit retains many of the original details of this 1910 building, including herringbone oak floors and a wood-burning fireplace. There’s also a terrace. However, Thurman’s renovation added contemporary features like an eat-in kitchen — which served her two daughters and son well — and two master suites complete with a Turkish steam bath. The final temptation: A coveted key to the famously iron-gated Gramercy Park.

As for Thurman’s latest NYC digs: She bought a 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom unit at the River House at 435 East 52nd Street for $10.3 million in 2013. That apartment had been owned by novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford. In between her stints at 1 Lexington Avenue and the River House, Thurman bought and sold a townhouse at 18 W. 9th Street for $12 million in 2011.

Hawke, meanwhile — who is getting critical acclaim for his acting in the new movie “Born to Be Blue” about jazz musician Chet Baker — has inhabited this townhouse at 353 West 21st Street before selling for $6.25 million and moving to 247 Dean Street in Boerum Hill.
