Let’s face it, Manhattan is not known for wide-open spaces. Comfortably sized 3-bedroom apartments are pretty rare. But a 3-bedroom at an affordable price, with great renovations and in-unit laundry to boot? That’s practically a miracle. And that’s exactly what our Rental of the Week feels like. This miraculous Upper West Side 3BR is in the neighborhood’s northern Manhattan Valley area, just two blocks from Central Park.

Address: 961 Columbus Ave. #4C
Price: $2,300
Size: 3-bedroom
Neighborhood: Manhattan Valley
Best feature: So! Much! Space! These are real bedrooms we’re talking about, with windows and closets, plus room for queen-size beds and then some. And there are two full bathrooms too, both modern and beautifully tiled, each with a window.
The shared living area of this Upper West Side 3BR is bright and open, as well. There’s a nicely renovated stainless steel kitchen with a dishwasher. Plus, tucked underneath the granite counters you’ll find your very own washer/dryer.
In addition — as if all that’s not enough! — our Rental of the Week’s location is great. Central Park’s lovely North Woods is just two blocks east, and three blocks north is Morningside Park. It’s conveniently close to several train lines and the Columbia campus too.
Why it’s a deal: Manhattan Valley is a submarket of the Upper West Side. The UWS’s median asking rent is $2,800 overall, according to the StreetEasy Data Dashboard. And for 3 or more bedrooms it shoots way up to $6,795! That puts our Rental of the Week $500 per month below average for the neighborhood, and thousands below average for an apartment of this size. Wow.

Biggest drawback: At this price, it should come as no surprise that this Upper West Side 3BR is a walkup. In addition, while the bedrooms all have hardwood floors, the living area’s floor is tiled. And finally, there’s no floor plan on the listing, so it’s hard to tell how the rooms are configured in relation to one another. Regardless, the price here far outweighs the drawbacks. If shared with three roommates, you’d pay less than $800 each!
