Finding a 2-bedroom in Manhattan under $1 million is hard enough, but finding one under $600K seems next to impossible. Prices are lower in the northern parts of the borough in neighborhoods like Washington Heights and Inwood — and these units are often in spectacular condition. If you’re looking to buy uptown, consider our Deal of the Week, 544 W. 157th St. #21. This Washington Heights 2-bedroom has in-unit laundry, huge windows, and a stellar price.
Learn more about our Deal of the Week!
The median asking price for a home in Washington Heights was $577,000 this July, according to the StreetEasy Data Dashboard, putting our Deal of the Week just on par for the neighborhood. However, with two bedrooms, this place has plenty of value, and is still priced well below the Manhattan median asking price of $1.6 million.
Buyers who choose to put down the 20% minimum down payment of $115,000 can expect to see estimated monthly payments of $3,829. This includes an estimated mortgage payment of $3,054 and maintenance fees of $775.
This Washington Heights 2-bedroom apartment is exuding charm and character, from its parquet hardwood floors in the big living room to its oversized bay windows that are just begging to be turned into cozy reading nooks. Although there’s some old-school vibes here, much of the unit has been renovated — most notably the kitchen and the bathroom. In the kitchen, you’ll find full-size stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher! Even better, the kitchen also has a washer/dryer combo, so taking laundry up and down the stairs can officially be a part of your past. A built-in bench with storage provides the perfect place to sit and eat.
The kitchen also has great finishes such as quartz countertops and white subway tile that is also found in the bathroom. Also in the bathroom? A rainfall shower head, black matte detailing and its own window. Across the hall, you’ll find the primary bedroom, which has the same bay windows found in the living room, a double-wide closet, and plenty of room for your bedroom furniture.

The secondary bedroom on the other side of the living room is a bit smaller, but still has a large window. Outside the bedroom’s door is the foyer, which has a handy hall closet.
This unit is located in an elevator building with bicycle storage, a grand marble entryway and common laundry. The building also offers high-speed internet and cable for $75/month and subletting after two years. Pets are also allowed! Location-wise, the building is mere feet from the 1 train stop at 157th Street and countless restaurants and shops on Broadway.
Unfortunately, the second bedroom doesn’t have a closet, so this isn’t a true 2-bedroom apartment. And there’s only one closet outside of the primary bedroom. Secondly, all the large windows in the unit are facing north, which means you won’t get a ton of direct sunlight throughout the day. But for a 2-bedroom in Manhattan under $600K, we’d say you’re getting a lot more than you’re giving up.
