As a signature building by the great Zaha Hadid, the curvaceous modern wonder hovering over the High Line at 520 West 28th Street was always going to be an instantly iconic landmark. Then came Hadid’s unfortunate and sudden death by heart attack this spring in Miami, just as her only New York City residential masterpiece was getting ready for its great reveal. Might that spur even greater interest in the penthouse unit at 520 West 28th Street?
We’re about to find out. Related Co., the group at the helm of the West Side’s redevelopment at the Hudson Yards mega-project, has listed Penthouse #37 at 520 West 28th Street for sale this week. The price is $50 million. That puts the per-square-foot price for the 6,853-square-foot unit at just a shade under $7,300.
The residence is three stories, connected by sculptural staircases and also includes a 2,218-square-foot terrace and two private balconies. Let’s see who bites, and how fast, given that this is the premium unit in the 39-apartment condo that is already an integral part of the High Line profile. The Pritzker Prize-winner and globally renowned architect is completely represented in the thrilling design of the building.
