DUMBO
Originally a manufacturing district, DUMBO has become one of the most artistic yet expensive neighborhoods in Brooklyn. “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass” constitutes the area from the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges to Vinegar Hill. Warehouse art galleries, converted lofts and luxury condo communities dominate DUMBO’s once inexpensive real estate. The neighborhood’s proximity to Manhattan and waterfront access attracted developers in recent decades, accelerating its gentrification process. However, there are still opportunities for improvement. In the wake of rapid residential development, DUMBO’s retail sector was left behind, and stores often close early. The neighborhood is quiet at night, except for the noise from the Manhattan Bridge overhead, leaving some residents wanting more for what they pay.
