Fernando Botero, the renowned Colombian painter and sculptor whose buxom forms and double-chinned portraits have been exhibited around the world, has listed his sprawling 3-bedroom apartment at 900 Park Ave. for $6M.

Artist botero and his listing at 900 Park avenueThe 85-year old artist has split his time between homes in Monaco, Pietrasanta, Italy, and the UES since 1980, when he originally purchased the condo. In recent years, however, Botero, who lives with his wife, the Greek artist Sophie Vari, has been making the transatlantic trip less often and is now looking to unload his NYC landing pad.

It’s fitting that Botero’s apartment is really big because he is known for large-format canvases and larger than life sculptures. The apartment is actually a combination of two units and spans the entire 22nd floor of the building.

Offering 3 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, the apartment measures just over 2,000 square feet. There are expansive views of the Central Park and the Midtown skyline from practically every room.

The current design is all done up in floor-to-ceiling mirrors, sparking white marble and shiny metal finishes — touches that are emblematic of the 1970s when Botero was hitting his stride.

Really upping the appeal for art nerds is that the apartment not only served as Botero’s NYC residence but also served as his studio. As such, the apartment includes a huge working space featuring a stunning wall of south-facing windows; artists have to have their natural light, after all. According to the listing description, Botero created some of his most important works here.

The images on the listing page feature many examples of Botero’s signature style, but caveat emptor, these are not included in the listing price. Based on recent auctions of his work, you’d probably have to tack on an extra $1.5M for a Botero to be included with the deal.
