Chelsea Townhouse With Celebrity Past Re-Listed for $22.5M

This Greek Revival townhouse has a past — and it’s not just about the bevy of celebrities who temporarily lived in the building’s five apartments. Now the West Chelsea gem at 436 W. 20th Street is back on the market for $22.5 million.

Yes, the A-list residents of this property included the likes of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, “Empire” cameo star and Hole rocker Courtney Love, money man Olivier Sarkozy, Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington Whiteley and even Glenn Close. According to the NY Daily News, it was where Garfield and Stone lived during the filming of “The Amazing Spiderman” in 2012 and where Close lived during the filming of “Fatal Attraction.”

But the real story of this 10,000-square-foot dwelling is what listing broker Ariel Properties calls a “museum-quality” renovation that has restored the 1835-era, landmarked house to its original splendor, in addition to raising its brick-frontice roofline a bit above the original. It was first listed for sale back in 2010 for $19 million.

As it now sits, the 5-story, 19th-century, elevatored mansion contains five floor-through luxury apartments, including the ground-floor garden stunner that Sarkozy once rented. That unit features 2 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and 2 enormous fireplaces.

The other four units include:

All apartments have unique décor which is showcased through its exposed beams, wide-planked original wood floors, detailed hallways, grand staircase and expansive living areas.

Each apartment is finished with wood burning fireplaces, high ceilings, detailed original crown moldings, an abundance of storage and closet space, Bosch washers & dryers, sound-proofed rooms, a large open living room and exquisite bedrooms. Likewise, all of the kitchens feature state-of the art Viking and Leibherr appliances.

While the townhouse could be returned to a single-family dwelling, it is currently generating a gross income of $624,000, or roughly $62 per residential square foot, according to the listing agent.
