East New York Housing Lottery Offers Apts Starting at $558

A new mixed-use rental building in East New York is ready for new residents, and with it, a new affordable housing lottery opportunity has also opened up.

The seven-story building at 2501 Pitkin Ave. is called the Pitkin-Berriman Apartments, and a total of 47 units are being set aside for winners of the new lottery. The deadline to apply is Nov. 27.

Income eligibility spans from 40 to 60 percent of the area median income. Those various levels are shown in the chart below. Rents for the 1, 2 and 3-bedroom units start at $558 and go up to $1,224 per month.

The new housing development was brought to the community by the Cypress Hills Development Corporation, and contains a ground-level grocery store and other retail space. Building amenities include a community room and kitchen, mail room, bike storage, laundry room, rear yard patio, playground and garden space. It offers access to the A, C, J, Z, 2, 3, 4 and 5 subways, as well as the B14 bus.
