Matt Lauer Trading Up in the Hamptons

It looks as if Matt Lauer won’t be needing this well-heeled little cottage at 67 Scotts Landing in Southampton any longer — adorable as it is. The longtime Hamptons’ landowner and resident has bigger fish to fry — and properties to buy.

Lauer’s Southampton cottage on Peconic Bay is on the market for $3.95M.

The New York Post reports that the “Today Show” host is the buyer for Richard Gere’s fabulous Sag Harbor compound, so Lauer is divesting of this Peconic Bay-fronting abode as he prepares for life at Gere’s Strongheart Manor.

Lauer paid $36.5 million for the 6.5-acre spread at 26 Actors Colony Road after Gere lopped millions off the original $65 million asking price. (It’s worth checking out the listing photos for Gere’s property, which he put up for sale in 2013, around the time Gere sought a divorce from his then wife, Carey Lowell.)

Reports say Matt Lauer is the buyer for Richard Gere’s waterfront compound in Sag Harbor.

Lauer, who is reportedly selling another one of his Hamptons’ properties after making the deal for Gere’s spread, bought the Southampton cottage in 2009 for $2.15 million. The cottage is now listed for sale for $3.95 million. The bayside cottage is on three-quarters of an acre and sits on 85 feet of bulkhead frontage to the Wooley Pond on the Peconic Bay. This is the quieter Southampton shore, north of the ocean side where many of the A-list celebrities, athletes and financial wizards make their ritzy summer playground.

Lauer’s cottage has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a huge deck for observing the nautical and wildlife activity on the bay. The interiors reflect a very disciplined but summery attitude, with bleached wood floors and monochromatic walls with a few accent colors in the furnishings. While only 1,800 square feet, Lauer’s little getaway is nearly perfect in where it sits and how it’s decorated.

Lauer and his wife, Annette, may have put some beautiful touches on this cottage, however, they are hardly lacking for other East End options. According to Variety, the couple has at least two other Hamptons properties, including a 24-acre estate in Water Mill that they purchased in the 1990s. They also own a pretty impressive horse farm called Bright Side Farms, where Annette — an avid horsewoman — keeps horses. The farm offers boarding and lessons and, according to the website, is “an extension” of the Lauers’ home.
