I am many things: an opera singer, long-distance hiker, and now Real Estate Agent with Douglas Elliman. I obtained my Bachelors in Music from the College-Conservatory of Music at The University of Cincinnati, focusing on enhancing my vocal performance and mastering the art of singing. On stage I have been interested in communicating to others not only the music, but also through my acting, the stories involved. Soon after graduation, spurred by childhood memories of hikes in the White Mountains of New Hampshire to the peak of Mount Khatadin in Maine, I embarked on a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail, which spans 2,650 miles from Campo, California, on the border with Mexico, north to Canada. I completed 1300 miles of trail, having had to bypass certain sections because of major negative environmental conditions. It is difficult to find the words to express the freedom you feel when you walk such a great distance, for such a long time. It was thrilling to have hiked for three glorious months and have met the challenges involved. The experience was life changing to say the least. The thing that amazed me the most on my journey was the ubiquitous generosity of other people I encountered. It is referred to as “Trail Magic”. This occurs when complete strangers help, aid, and even house thru-hikers along their extended adventures. These “Trail Angels” do these things out of the kindness of their hearts. In a similar spirit, of course also wanting to make a living, life has led me to Real Estate, in order to help people accomplish their goals and live happy and healthy lives, in beautiful homes and apartments. This summer, being away from home, opened my eyes to this important, meaningful role that home plays in our lives. What one calls home is close to you, your sacred space. If I can assist people to have their own “corners of the world” to use as they desire, it would fulfill me in more ways than I ever would have imagined. I hope to leverage my skills in the arts, singing and communication, along with the ethical mindset from my hike, to help good people find wonderful places to live. If you want to see a home or see pictures from my time out West shoot me an email or give a call! All the best, Bernard (Ben) Khalil
