we went to Long's on 72nd and bought a floor model, which was a Burton James. It has been great to lounge on so far, though we haven't yet road-tested the sleeper part.

I suggest you also take a look at Carlyle with stores on Third Avenue and in Chelsea. Website is CarlyleSofa dot com. It's what they specialize in and their couches are made in the same factory as the much more costly Avery Boardman sofas. We've had our Carlyle for 13 years and have sat on it and had friends sleep on it. No complaints on either count.

Agree that Scott Jordan is also very reputable manufacturer.

Cerrito Sofa (based in CT, I think they still manufacture there). Jensen Lewis is a dealer.

We bought our sleep sofa at Macy's and the brand is American Leather or AU. it is rated one of the best for sofas that are actually comfortable to sleep on. It does not have the miserable bar across the midsection that can be so disruptive to a good night's sleep but instead opens in thirds. We have other sofas in our other house and none are as comfortable if you want to use them for a 'guest room'. We had it covered in a microsuede that wears and sponges off stains incredibly well which is important if there are little ones or clumsy big ones running around.

I agree with Rosina. I, and my sleepover guests absolutely love American Leather/AU. It is one of those rare convertibles that are both comfortable as a sofa AND a bed. I bought mine at Macys too and they were excellent with the white glove delivery.

Bought a McCreary Modern sectional from Macy's - comfy bed, sofa sits well, it's the size of the QE2 but it works and company isn't complaining - or maybe they don't because they fear the lack of future invites.

American Leather and the Comfort Sleeper offered by Scott Jordan are one in the same.

Both Scott Jordan and Carlyle are actually designed for the sleeper's NIGHTLY use, rather than most other sofabeds that are really only designed for occasional use.

I think Carlyle also has some kind of crazy 20-year guarantee.

My wife and I recently did way too much research and in-person testing of sleepers. The Carlyle is better than most of the old-school ones with the bar that digs into your back, but the sleepers that use the American Leather technology are SO MUCH more comfortable....it is not even close. They will function more like an actual bed, but they can be pricey. Go into Bloomingdale's or the Crate & Barrel in midtown and you can test a few of them out in one shot.

The AL sleepers have a more stable sleeping surface and a foam mattress that is comfortable and you can sleep on night after night.

How very ... McDonald's.

Does it come complete with a greasy floor underneath?

I read that article in the Post today. What a terrible story. The guy had two drinks, sure enough.
But the guy he ran over was crossing the highway, not a street.
They didn't say what time this occurred, but if it was at night and someone was walking across the LIE or the clearview/whitestone/cross island expressways, that could have happened to anyone of us.

Thanks everybody for their responses...I ordered the scott jordan/ American Leather (tolle model in leather). Here is why and what I found out - american leather makes sleepers for several retailers, however, the scott jordan models come with a five inch mattress and the rest AL retailers (like room & board and others) come with a four inch mattress. I also liked the look of the the one scott jordan sofa a bit better and the leather used seemed much nicer...albeit more expensive. I have not slept on it yet, the AL sofas were very comfortable, I will have no issues putting guests on it. One other great thing, was the AL models are longer than a standard pullout, so i'm 6'1 and my feet didn't hang off!....

you will be very happy. I missed this thread originally but we too have the American Leather sleeper sofa from SJ & everyone who sleeps on it comments on how comfy it is. Just make sure you use a mattress protector on it because there is no way to clean those things if someone has a spill, accident or (ah-hem) leak.

After much search and debate over sleeper sofa vs. pull out, we ended up with a leather daybed/trundle from Hillsdale furniture collection. It's very comfortable as a sofa during the day (we have pillows to lean on) and it's 2 twin beds when we have visitors. Really happy with it.

OOOH! Great taste! That's my favorite model -- very Deco lines.

What color leather??

Here's a new sleeper sofa I found at the last High Point Market show: www.modadivan.com.

It's memory foam and electric powered by remote control or a button console on the frame. It was very comfortable with a clean modern design and a variety of color options. I was very impressed.

or better yet, a remote control so you can fold it up from across the room when someone oversleeps.

I just received the new sleeper sofa from www.modadivan.com this thing is amazing and it even comes with a remote control!! i have never sat on anything as comfortable as this. The couch is so cool you can still be laying or sitting on it and it will move from a couch to a bed within 15-20 seconds. Did i mention that its all memory foam. I have a memory foam bed but its not as comfy as this. All the neighbors are talking about the guy who has a motorized couch lol!! its so cool one of the best purchases i have ever made. its worth the cost and the quality is far superior than any couch i have ever seen or had ( i am very pick when it comes to my furniture) well done guys. thanks for the new sleeper sofa. everyone should have one or two. I also have a loft in NYC and i will be getting another one for that as well it will be perfect for the small space that i have. Thanks again guys i will tell all of my friends.
