Discussion about
Does anyone have any experience with long distance movers from Chicago to NYC? Which moving company did you use? Would you recommend any? How soon in advance did you book them? Basically any info on how to ensure a successful move from Chicago to NYC. Thanks. RS

i moved from north carolina to ny and from fl. to ny and used flatrate movers both times. i had no problems with them..they annoyed me by reminding me to tip (five minutes after arriving at my apt).

julia, as always is very funny!

I can reco "The Padded Wagon".

I had a great move with them.
They moved Keith Richards from Manhattan to Conn. with not one thing broken, no problems. Keith has a lot of valuable things that can not be replaced. His reco was good enough for me.

I'm good, thanks mutombonyc.
I'm up for a Central Park picnic. Bring the family. We can spend the day (as bathroom breaks can be taken at my apartment, it's only a few blocks away.).

Truth --

Message for Keef: "You owe me 50 quid, mate, from some cocked-up drug deal near Villa Nellcote when we was recordin' Exile."

Also, the Queen and I were discussing just the other day that we cannot abide name-droppers.

Keith owes nothing to anybody. Especially you. Go have another drink.
I don't give a crap about what "we" can't abide.

As if you actually know anybody of any interest.

I'm having dinner with Keith next week, so I'll check out that moving company reference. I'm sure you won't mind.

If they were good enough to move Keith's things, they were good enough for me. A very good moving company.
You are having dinner with your drunken dreams. and possibly alanhart.

Sunday in the Park with Keith's Things, in a fixed-up old shopping cart, just Truth and her memories. Oh, the humanity.

Called Keith. Says he has no idea who you are and that people are always claiming to know him. But I would like to meet Charlie Watts if you know him too.

First no spinny.

Then kinky bails.

Keith wasn't there in the first place.

But...not to despair

Riversider is ready and willing

Although unable.

that works too. poor street808 is likely rethinking his relocation plans, despite keith being so satisfied with his moving company.

"hey keith, what moving company did you use?" "how the fuck would i know, you think i chose the moving company?"

I used Mayflower. I think it was about $4000 all in (they brought their own boxes, packed all my stuff, etc) for my one bedroom apartment. That was about 8 years ago so things have probably gone up. That also included insurance with $0 deducatable but they didn't so much as break a single glass. I would go with a well-known comopany rather thatn the chapest provider out there. I've heard horror stories when people take the cheapest guy they can find. I've used flat rate locally with great results but didn't know they also did national moves.

lucille, got it on the first attempt.

we used mayflower years ago, and sadly it was pretty awful. this was a corporate relocation, so the movers were arranged for by an employer, which i thought was great until i realized that they had dropped two boxes filled with the delicate items i had purchased while living in tokyo and traveling in asia (not a single item survived). but i suspect this was individual human error, not necessarily a reflection of the company overall.

I called Keef again. He said that he did not use a company and actually moved himself, using a U-Haul, along with the other Stones. But Ronnie was a drunken sod and couldn't help him lift the furniture. Mick kept doing the rooster instead of holding the door while Charlie refused to touch anything, saying "my hands are me livelihood."

And if you think all of that sounds far-fetched, compare it to the likelihood that KR gave Truth-y a "reco" for a mover.
