It’s not often you hear about a person with a 9,607-square-foot triplex listing the apartment for sale because — according to reports — her two children need more space. But that is apparently why Alexis Stewart, only daughter of Martha Stewart, has listed her minimalist West Village apartment for $53 million.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the younger Stewart purchased four separate units at 165 Charles St. in 2006 and 2007 for $35 million, then configured them into a massive, 6-bedroom triplex. The 50-something heir to the Martha Stewart empire has two children from her marriage to attorney John Cuti, which ended in divorce in 2004.
In addition to the 6 bedrooms, the custom apartment boasts 6 full bathrooms, 3 large powder rooms, 4 terraces and 100 feet of Hudson River views.
The living and dining room has a wall of glass for 360-degree views that take in the World Trade Center, Statue of Liberty and more before opening onto two large terraces.
The listing photos from agent Richard Ziegelasch at Brown Harris Stevens do not include any from Alexis Stewart’s kitchen, but like her entrepreneurial homemaker mother, Alexis has done a lot of cooking and blogging from her professional-grade kitchen. In fact, her apartment has been featured in Martha Stewart Living, so look here for more interior photos.
According to the Journal, Alexis is selling because her two children are getting older and would enjoy a yard, as would the family dog. Trading in those sweeping views for a yard, though? That’s got to be tough.
