greenwich village 1-bedroom - 120 macdougal

Our Rental of the Week boasts a great location — and a sunny kitchen with a dishwasher.

Who doesn’t dream of living in Greenwich Village? There’s a reason it’s one of NYC’s most renowned neighborhoods, after all — the history, the culture, NYU, Washington Square Park. You might think a deal is impossible to find here, but check out our Rental of the Week! This Greenwich Village 1-bedroom has a lot to like for a great price, and its location on storied MacDougal Street is top-notch.

Address: 120 MacDougal St. #20

Price: $2,500

Size: 1-bedroom

Neighborhood: Greenwich Village

Best feature: MacDougal Street has a storied history that is just so New York. It has been home to Bob Dylan, Louisa May Alcott, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Eugene O’Neill. It has hosted performances and readings by Jimi Hendrix, Allen Ginsberg, and Jack Kerouac, who was inspired enough to write “MacDougal Street Blues” in 1954. It’s also the address of the Comedy Cellar, one of the top comedy clubs in the country, and Minetta Tavern, one of the city’s hottest and most historic restaurants. Wow!

Of course, this apartment has more going for it than just its stellar location. The kitchen is bright and sunny, with modern stainless appliances including a dishwasher. And the bedroom feels spacious and airy, with whitewashed brick and two big windows, plus plenty of space for a king-size bed.

Why it’s a deal: The median rent for a Greenwich Village 1-bedroom is $3,800. That puts our Deal of the Week at more than $1,000 below average for the neighborhood! In fact, it’s even below average for studios in the ‘hood, which have a median rent of $2,800.

Biggest drawback: We’ll be blunt: This is a fifth-floor walkup. Ouch. And, while the apartment is very well appointed and makes the most of the space it has, it is certainly not big.
