When selling a home, especially in New York City, getting your listing in front of as many buyers as possible is critical. That’s why StreetEasy is introducing two premarketing opportunities: Preview and Coming soon. Both let you start building interest in your home on StreetEasy, Zillow, and Trulia before your property is officially for sale.
At StreetEasy, we believe in an open market where buyers and sellers have the visibility they need to make informed decisions. For sellers, this means more exposure and better buyer demand insights. The sooner sellers can start gathering these insights, the faster they can start refining their strategy.
Keep reading to learn how premarketing can help you build demand, fine-tune your strategy, and prepare for a stronger launch – all in collaboration with your listing agent.
What is premarketing, and why does it matter?
If you’re planning to sell soon, you may already be discussing with your agent the best ways to market your home. Still, you may be wondering, What if we get the price wrong? What if my property doesn’t attract the right buyers? What if it sits on the market too long? This is where a premarket strategy can help.
Marketing before your listing is officially on the market lets you tweak pricing, presentation, and other details before your property is actively for sale. This way, it’s ready by launch day to attract serious buyers.
Doing this on the open market allows you and your agent to easily maximize your listing’s exposure in front of a wider pool of buyers. When you market your premarket listing in front of StreetEasy’s 2 million average monthly home shoppers1, you’ll generate greater interest while gathering insights to test your selling strategy.
In contrast, listing privately means only a select group of buyers gets to see your property beforehand, which can limit the effectiveness of your marketing efforts and the insights you gather.
It’s little wonder that NYC sellers who listed privately were nearly 3x more likely to experience seller’s remorse than those who only listed publicly, according to StreetEasy research. Listings marketed publicly also tend to sell for more2 and spend fewer days on the market3 than homes listed privately.
That’s why StreetEasy is bringing the premarket phase to the open market with Preview and Coming soon — giving you and your agent the fastest read of what buyers think of your strategy.
Introducing Preview and Coming soon
Preview and Coming soon give NYC’s largest home shopper audience4 a chance to view and get excited about your property — even before it officially hits the market. Premarketing on StreetEasy puts your listing in front of buyers with intent, as StreetEasy and its platforms have the most NYC listings.5
Both listing statuses let agents see views, saves, shares, and messages, so your agent can easily let you know what buyers think of your home and pricing. You and your agent can then use this engagement data to make the best decisions for your listing before you commit to going live.
What’s the difference between Preview and Coming soon?
Preview and Coming soon both allow you to premarket your listing on the open market before it goes live, but there are key differences between the two.
Preview lets you test your listing strategy on StreetEasy, Zillow, and Trulia without accruing days on market or displaying price changes during the premarket window. It also refreshes your ranking in StreetEasy search results once the listing becomes active, giving you an added moment of visibility. This gives you and your agent the flexibility to test and refine your selling strategy early on, without losing your go-live momentum.
Coming soon lets you premarket your listing, but unlike Preview, it accumulates days on market and price change data upon publish.
How premarketing works on StreetEasy
When your listing is in the premarket phase, buyers can see its description, photo gallery, and agent information, as well as pre-book tours for after your listing officially hits the market. Your listing agent can connect directly with interested buyers and answer their questions, then use those insights to go live with confidence. Your agent can then easily share this information with you, keeping you updated every step of the way.
For both Preview and Coming soon, the premarket phase is capped at 14 days. In other words, it’s a short window to build momentum, not a permanent state. During this time, buyers can view your listing and schedule tours in advance.
When creating your premarket listing, your agent will select an expected on-market date. This is when buyers can start touring. Your agent can move the date earlier if needed, but not later.

Ready to get a head start on your home sale?
Preview and Coming soon can help you build interest, gather buyer insights, and refine your marketing plan before your listing officially goes live on StreetEasy and its platforms, which are the most trusted by New Yorkers for home shopping.6
