Update, April 17, 2020: Despite the times, Amazon czar Jeff Bezos is doubling down on NYC real estate — or should we say quadrupling down, as this is his fourth unit in the same building! As reported by the New York Post, Bezos has just closed on yet another posh unit at 212 Fifth Avenue, where he also owns a fantastic penthouse and the two units below it.
Those three units had a combined purchase price of about $80 million, and a combined size of more than 17,000 square feet. This new unit, 212 Fifth Ave. #20B, cost the billionaire another $16M, well above the $11.25M asking price. He must really like the NoMad building, because he’s now in it for a nearly $100 million!
Apartment 20B is 3,000 square feet and adjacent to Bezos’s other three units there, which means he is soon to create a positively massive 20,000-square-foot palace overlooking Madison Square Park. In fact, per the Post, building permits to combine the units have already been filed. It’s good to be king of the internet!

Amazon may have rebuffed Long Island City as the location for part of its second headquarters, but the man who built the juggernaut online retailer will take Manhattan, again. Reports from the Wall Street Journal say Jeff Bezos has bought $80 million worth of real estate at the luxury condo development 212 Fifth Avenue.
The deal includes a 10,079-square-foot penthouse unit that was most recently listed for sale at $58 million, down from the original list of $73.8 million. It’s a triplex unit with an additional 5,700 square feet in terraces, including a third-floor observatory that opens to a 95-square-foot terrace with panoramic views of the Empire State Building, Flatiron Building and World Trade Center.
The deal includes two additional units on successive floors below, which were purchased as a package deal for $28.45 million through Madison Park LLC. That pair of apartments contains a total of 7,239 square feet of space, because, well, size matters.
Fitting for the billionaire who even after a recent divorce settlement with his ex-wife MacKenzie Bezos, is said to be worth an estimated $106 billion, this is reported to be the priciest deal to date below 42nd Street. In other words, the $58,000 in carrying costs for his combined, new NYC digs is small potatoes for Bezos.
Bezos already owns a Manhattan residence at 25 Central Park West, which he purchased in 1995. In 2016, Bezos also paid $23 million for the former Textile Museum in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, D.C. At 27,000 square feet, it’s the largest home in the city, and is undergoing a $12 million renovation.
Bezos’ new glass-walled NoMad pad sits atop the 24-story tower at 212 Fifth, a Gothic former manufacturing building that dates to 1912 but has seen a complete overhaul from Madison Equities, Building and Land Technology and Thor Equities.
