Walking down the street in New York City, you’re never sure if that lanky Eastern European waif is super model on the DL or a lost foreign exchange student. Whether that dapper septuagenarian is just the neighborhood dandy or veteran of the design world. Such is life in the wonderful city we live.
Which brings us to New York City Fashion Week. Over the course of the next two weeks (Sept. 7-16), there will be over 275 shows and presentations featuring fashion’s most celebrated designers and labels. And with NYC the de facto capital of the fashion world, our city has the prestige of being home to many of design’s top players.
We’ve rounded up all the intel StreetEasy has on New York City’s local fashion celebrities and the places they call home – many with distinct styles and tastes. Check out the handy map we made too!
Kayne West
Kayne has already caused quite a stir at Fashion Week this year and we’re only a day into it. His opening night concert was met with mixed reviews to put it nicely, but his fashion choices, nonetheless were a hit. In keeping with their limelight loving lifestyle, news just broke that the couple resides in this $24.5M Tribeca Penthouse. For free.
Gisele Bundchen
Mega supermodel Gisele Bundchen and her equally famous husband, Patriots QB Tom Brady, will be newcomers to Tribeca, once their $20M condo at 70 Vestry Street is finished. In the meantime, the uber-celeb couple have decided to unload their One Madison apartment for $17.25M.
Alexander Wang
Alexander Wang, the 32-year-old golden boy of the fashion world and favorite of Anna Wintour, is also a Tribeca resident, but unlike most people, he paid for his place. In 2010, he bought a $2M loft on Worth Street that he is now selling for $3.75M.
Mickey Drexler
Tribeca is also the neighborhood of choice for Mickey Drexler, the CEO of J. Crew, who recently listed his amazing townhouse on Greenwich Street for $29.995M $27.5M.
Mary-Kate Olsen
Super-opulent Downtown townhouses, apparently, are popular among A-list design folk. Who knew? Mary-Kate Olsen, who along with her twin/partner in crime, Ashley Olsen heads up the chic ready-wear label The Row, also is a fan of fabulous townhouses. She and her French beau, Sarkozy, were renting one in the East Village (that you can now rent for $26.5K/month) until they traded in for equally if not more fabulous townhouse in Kips Bay (below).
Ashley Olsen
Always been more an Ashley fan? Well, you’re in luck. She lives in town too. Just this spring she bought a $7.3M condo on East 12th Street, just a block from her sister’s old place.
Alessandra and Allegra Gucci
Isn’t there some adage about sisters who buy real estate together succeed in fashion together? No? Well, there should be. Uptown, Alessandra and Allegra Gucci, an older generation of fashion sisters and the scions of the Gucci line, live in duplex penthouse in the illustrious and exclusive Olympic Tower. It’s currently listed for $35M.
Gigi Hadid
In the world of fashion and the world of real estate, the good stuff runs in the family. Supermodel Gigi Hadid inherited her supermodel mother Yolanda Foster’s good looks. She also got a sweet Nolita condo from her mom back in 2010. Real estate, like good looks, however, can be fleeting. Hadid sold the place last winter for $2.3M.
Hadid didn’t stray too far from her downtown stomping grounds. Her new $3.9M condo is a straight shot up Bowery and over on Bond at the Annabel Selldorf designed luxury condo 10 Bond in Noho.
Christie Brinkley
Head out east to the Hamptons and you’ll find a summer enclave dense with fashion stars. Classic sweetheart and Hamptons local Christie Brinkley has called a sprawling Bridgehampton compound her summer family home for years. The recent empty-nester, however, listedit for $29.5M just this summer.
Elie Tahari
Further down the coast, the fabulous Sagaponack summer home of Rory Tahari, which she shared with her ex-husband, the famous women’s wear designer, Elie Tahari, was being rented this summer for $800K.
Betsey Johnson
If the classic, understated stylings of Tahari don’t do it for you, you might take to the zany flights of fancy and interior stylings at Betsey Johnson’s East Hampton Cottage. It was listed for $1.75M and is currently off the market.
Stella McCartney
Keep heading east and before you get to the tip of the Island there is one more fashion designer to be found. Out in Amagansett, Stella McCartney, famous British designer of the eponymous label and daughter of Sir Paul himself, has a little beach bungalow she bought this summer for $1.3M.
