Where Does Stephen Colbert Live, Anyway?

where does stephen colbert live“The Late Show” is filmed in midtown Manhattan, at the historic Ed Sullivan Theater on Broadway. But Stephen Colbert doesn’t live in Manhattan, or even in NYC: He’s out in the ’burbs. Specifically, Colbert and his family live in Montclair, New Jersey, which is about 13 miles west of the city. According to Zillow, the median home price in Montclair is $661,384 (but we think it’s safe to assume that the lovely Colbert residence cost slightly more!).

He’s been filming in various places around the house, including by the fire pit on the back patio. There was also a memorable monologue from his “bathtub bunker,” fully dressed and covered in bubbles. Montclair is pretty hip as far as suburbs go, with a lot of college students from Montclair State University and a thriving downtown arts scene, so a wacky talk-show host taping segments from his backyard — or his bathroom — probably fits right in.

Where Does Jimmy Fallon Live?

Unlike Colbert, “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon actually does live in Manhattan. His Gramercy Park residence is well documented (or should we say residences, since he and his wife own several units in the building!).

But that’s not where he’s filming his “Tonight Show: At Home Edition” segments. During quarantine, Fallon and family are holed up in their Hamptons house in Sagaponack, a historic beachside village on Long Island that Out East calls “one of the wealthiest zip codes in the U.S.”

jimmy fallonThis gorgeous Victorian farmhouse — you’ll recognize the front porch if you’re a regular viewer — sits on more than two acres of land, complete with horse paddocks and an apple orchard. He purchased the six-bedroom home back in 2011 for $5.7 million. We know the home was built in 1850, but the year that amazing slide was added remains a mystery.

Where Does Trevor Noah Live?

trevor noah - where does stephen colbert live“Daily Show” fans have sure seen a lot of Trevor Noah’s couch lately. The Comedy Central host’s casual sweatshirts and scruffy beard might have you thinking he lives in a “regular person” apartment, but that couch actually resides in a super-posh Manhattan penthouse!

Noah’s home is an absolutely jaw-dropping 3,596-square-foot duplex in the Stella Tower, an architectural gem in Hell’s Kitchen. It’s only a few blocks from the studio where his show is taped, and wow is it ever a beauty — as well it should be, given its $10 million price tag.

The kitchen alone has three exposures and intimidatingly state-of-the art appliances. And the master suite takes up an entire floor, with sky-high ceilings, radiant-heat marble floors, and even a wet bar. Just look at the views from that 934-square-foot terrace! Well done, Trevor.

Where Does John Oliver Live?

john oliver - where does stephen colbert liveFans of satiric television news know that “Last Week Tonight” is also coming to viewers from its host’s home. John Oliver’s place is not far from Trevor Noah’s, actually, and it’s similarly fabulous. Oliver lives in a penthouse at the Aldyn, a 40-story luxury tower in the Lincoln Square neighborhood.

The 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath home encompasses 3,000 square feet of interior space, with a loggia — fancy! — that boasts river and skyline views. And if you think that’s impressive, the building itself houses 40,000 square feet of over-the-top amenities, including an indoor pool, a rock-climbing wall, and a bowling alley. Oliver may be quarantined at home like the rest of us, but at least he has a lot of activities to keep him busy.

Where Does Samantha Bee Live?

Much like Jimmy Fallon, “Full Frontal” host Samantha Bee lives in Manhattan but isn’t quarantining there. Bee normally resides on Riverside Drive, with her husband (and fellow “Daily Show” alum), Jason Jones, and their children. But these days she’s broadcasting from their home in upstate New York — from the forest behind their home, to be specific.

samantha bee - where does stephen colbert liveThe upstate episodes are dubbed “Little Show in the Big Woods,” and they are certainly… rustic. This might be a little more nature than New Yorkers are comfortable with! Be careful out there, Ms. Bee.

Where Does Al Roker Live?

And finally, New York TV hosts broadcasting from their homes are not restricted to late night! Al Roker has been a presence on the “Today” show since 1996 and the owner of the swanky Upper East Side townhouse from which he’s now broadcasting for almost as long.

al rokerThe five-story, limestone-fronted townhouse where Roker, wife Deborah Roberts, and their children dwell sits on a leafy street in the East 80s. They bought the place in 2000 for $3.25 million, according to property records, and Roker promptly set about expanding and modernizing the kitchen, his favorite room. So naturally, that’s where he began giving weather reports as coronavirus kept him from the “Today” studios on West 48th Street.

Born and raised in Queens, Roker apparently always wanted a Manhattan townhouse. “I always thought that was real New York living, and a nice thing to have in the city,” he told Closer Weekly in 2016. He and Roberts had been living in a prewar co-op on East 68th Street. But after a dinner party given by Spike Lee at his own palatial UES pad, they decided townhouse life was right for them. Excellent choice!
